As the world gears up for the grand finale of the FIFA World Cup 2026, a sensational closing ceremony is poised to captivate audiences around the globe. Among the illustrious names set to grace the stage is none other than Hollywood icon Tom Cruise, alongside an array of musical talents including Robbie Williams and Jennifer Hudson. Scheduled for Sunday, the ceremony promises to be a vibrant celebration of football, culture, and unity.

A Spectacular Celebration of Football

FIFA officially unveiled the star-studded lineup for the closing ceremony on Tuesday, revealing that it will take place 90 minutes before the much-anticipated final match. The event aims to honour the remarkable journey of the 48 competing teams across 16 cities spanning three host nations: Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

In addition to Cruise’s highly anticipated “special appearance,” the ceremony will feature performances by a plethora of artists. Among them are Italian singer Laura Pausini, known for her stirring performances, and Nicole Scherzinger, Tony Award winner and member of the Pussycat Dolls.

Social media sensation IShowSpeed, who gained fame through his streaming of live matches, is also set to make an appearance, further enhancing the event’s appeal to diverse audiences.

A Grand Musical Showcase

Jennifer Hudson, a celebrated performer with an EGOT status—having won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony—will deliver a stirring rendition of the US national anthem, adding an emotional touch to the proceedings.

Heimo Schirgi, the World Cup’s chief operating officer, expressed excitement about the upcoming event, stating, “Echoing the spirit of the opening ceremonies, which welcomed the world to the greatest stage in Canada, Mexico and the United States, the closing ceremony will bring the FIFA World Cup 2026 full circle through music, culture, and football.”

The closing ceremony will be produced in collaboration with Balich Wonder Studio, under the guidance of Marco Balich, who previously orchestrated the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Historic Half-Time Show on the Horizon

This year’s final will also feature a groundbreaking half-time show, marking the first of its kind in World Cup history. A-list performers such as Shakira, Madonna, and K-pop sensations BTS will take the stage, with Coldplay’s Chris Martin curating the show. FIFA President Gianni Infantino described this as “a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world.”

As anticipation builds for this unparalleled celebration, FIFA has urged ticket holders to arrive early, promising an interactive experience where fans will actively participate in the show. The festivities kick off at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, at 1:30 PM ET, leading up to the final match at 3 PM ET.

Why it Matters

The closing ceremony of the FIFA World Cup is more than just a spectacle; it serves as a powerful reminder of the unifying force of sport. With an impressive lineup of global icons and a commitment to celebrating diverse cultures, the event encapsulates the essence of the tournament—bringing together nations, fostering camaraderie, and creating memories that will resonate long after the final whistle. As football fans around the world prepare for this momentous occasion, the blend of sport and entertainment promises to leave an indelible mark on the legacy of the World Cup.
