A Sydney woman who took the life of her abusive spouse during a violent assault has been handed a prison sentence of at least three years. Nirmeen Noufl, 55, pleaded guilty to excessive self-defence earlier this year after fatally stabbing and dismembering her husband, Mamdouh Noufl, in their Greenacre home in mid-2023. With time already served, she will be eligible for parole come October 2027.
A Decade of Torment and the Final Blow
The relationship between the couple was marred by sustained violence over a period spanning two decades. Mamdouh Noufl held conservative Islamic views and exercised rigid control over his wife and their eight children. Just days before his death, he revealed to his wife that he had met a woman in Egypt whom he intended to marry, yet he flatly refused her request for a divorce. When he returned home that evening, an argument erupted, culminating in him assaulting her and choking her as he pinned her to the ground.
