Among those vying for permits is Cowboy Space Corporation, with ambitions to deploy a 20,000-satellite system, while SpaceX has asserted that its orbital datacentres are essential for humanity’s multi-planetary future. However, critics argue that the environmental considerations in their applications lack substance and detail, stating that “no proponent has provided satisfactory detail to explain how it will mitigate the cumulative environmental harms.”
