In a significant shift within its senior management, Telus Corporation has announced the return of a former leader and the departure of another as part of a reorganisation under new CEO Victor Dodig. David Fuller, who previously spent 15 years at the company before leaving in 2019, is set to rejoin as group president of Telus Communications. His role will encompass oversight of the company’s core telecom business units, marking a pivotal move as Telus seeks to enhance its operational strategy.
Leadership Changes Unveiled
The announcement, made public on Wednesday morning, highlights Telus’s strategic direction and the emphasis on refining its service offerings. David Fuller, known for his extensive background in consumer, small business, and marketing divisions, will now spearhead the telecommunications segment. His previous tenure at Telus positions him well to reintegrate and drive the company’s vision forward.
In contrast, Zainul Mawji, who has dedicated 25 years to Telus, will be stepping down from her position as president of consumer solutions. Mawji has played a crucial role across various sectors within the company, including corporate development and technology operations. Her departure marks the end of an era, as she leaves behind a legacy of leadership and innovation.
Continuity and New Directions
Meanwhile, Navin Arora remains with Telus as group president of global platform businesses, maintaining his current responsibilities over Telus Health, Agriculture & Consumer Goods, and Telus Digital. In addition to his existing roles, Arora will now also oversee corporate strategy at the enterprise level, as well as the company’s venture capital initiatives and data centre strategy.
The previous CEO, Darren Entwistle, had identified both Mawji and Arora as potential successors, but the leadership baton ultimately passed to Victor Dodig. Dodig, who previously held the CEO position at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, brings a wealth of experience, having also served on the Telus board for several years.
Strategic Vision for the Future
According to the company’s announcement, these leadership changes represent the “first step” in a broader strategy aimed at transforming the telecommunications sector. The objective is to enhance customer service, improve operational efficiencies, and align capital investment with the highest-margin products. Dodig emphasised that these structural adjustments are essential for fortifying Telus’s financial base while propelling profitable growth.
“The changes to our organisational structure and leadership ensure we are set up to deliver on that strategic plan,” Dodig stated, reinforcing the company’s commitment to adapting to the rapidly evolving telecom landscape.
Why it Matters
The restructuring at Telus signals a pivotal moment for the company as it embarks on a new chapter under Dodig’s leadership. By reinstating seasoned executives and promoting continuity within its upper management, Telus is positioning itself to navigate the challenges of a competitive market. As the firm prioritises customer satisfaction and operational excellence, these leadership transitions will likely play a crucial role in its long-term success and ability to innovate within the telecommunications industry.
