Their pricing strategy appears competitive, with additional fees for specific high-demand locations such as the airport and major entertainment venues.

Other major players, including Waymo and Uber, have also submitted applications to the Nevada Transportation Authority to establish their autonomous vehicle networks. As these companies await regulatory decisions, the competition continues to heat up, putting pressure on Tesla to expedite its plans despite these recent setbacks.

Gradual Rollout: Tesla’s Strategy for Expansion

Tesla anticipates that the software will be ready for launch by late 2026 or early 2027, although preliminary versions are already undergoing testing with the existing fleet. However, the company faces additional regulatory hurdles concerning its Cybercab—an innovative vehicle designed without conventional steering mechanisms. To deploy this model, Tesla must seek a federal exemption from existing vehicle safety regulations, an application that has yet to be submitted.
