In a gripping new Netflix thriller set against the rugged backdrop of the Australian wilderness, Welsh actor Taron Egerton and Hollywood icon Charlize Theron are set to captivate audiences in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse.

Titled “Apex”, the film sees Egerton, known for his acclaimed performance as Elton John in “Rocketman”, take on the role of a serial killer on the hunt for Theron’s adrenaline-seeking character. Directed by Baltasar Kormákur, the survivalist story promises to push the two talented actors to the limits as they navigate the treacherous terrain of New South Wales.

Speaking about the project, Kormákur expressed his delight at working with “three of the world’s most talented, dedicated actors” in Theron, Egerton, and Eric Bana, who also stars in the film. The director teased that he has put the cast “through the ringer” in this unique survival narrative, set to premiere on Netflix on 24 April.

For Egerton, this marks his second collaboration with the streaming giant, having previously appeared in the 2024 Christmas-themed action film “Carry-on”. The 28-year-old actor, who hails from Aberystwyth, has quickly established himself as a rising star in the industry, earning a BAFTA nomination and a Golden Globe win for his portrayal of the legendary Elton John.

Theron, on the other hand, is no stranger to critical acclaim, having won an Oscar for her transformative performance as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the 2003 film “Monster”. The South African-born actress is also known as one of Hollywood’s highest-paid stars, further cementing her status as a formidable force in the industry.

With its talented cast, stunning Australian landscapes, and intense survival narrative, “Apex” promises to be a thrilling addition to Netflix’s growing catalogue of original content. Fans of Egerton, Theron, and high-stakes action are sure to be on the edge of their seats when the film premieres later this month.
