In a captivating move, the forthcoming crime thriller ‘Prisoner’ has been filmed across the picturesque landscapes of Wales, promising to deliver a gripping and suspenseful viewing experience for audiences later this year.

The six-part series, partly funded by the Welsh government, follows the story of a prison officer and a trained killer who are inadvertently bound together and become the targets of a deadly manhunt. The series boasts an impressive cast, featuring former BAFTA nominee Tahar Rahim and BAFTA winner Izuka Hoyle in the lead roles, alongside Ray Donovan star Eddie Marsan and Catherine McCormack.

Directed by the acclaimed Otto Bathurst, known for his work on Peaky Blinders, the production team was spotted filming across the streets of Cardiff, adding to the authenticity and atmosphere of the thrilling narrative.

Hoyle’s character, Amber Todd, is a young prison transport officer tasked with taking prisoner Tibor Stone, played by Rahim, to court to testify against an elite crime syndicate. However, the pair find themselves as the sole survivors of a brutal ambush on their convoy, forcing them to race to their intended destination while handcuffed together and with the syndicate hot on their heels.

The gripping storyline was created by Oscar-nominated writer Matt Charman, best known for his work on the Steven Spielberg film Bridge of Spies. ‘Prisoner’ marks the second Sky drama filmed in Wales last year to be broadcast in 2026, following the release of ‘Under Salt Marsh,’ which stars Yellowstone actress Kelly Reilly and was shot across North and West Wales.

For French actor Tahar Rahim, this role in ‘Prisoner’ adds to his impressive portfolio, which includes his acclaimed performances in the BBC drama The Serpent and the Golden Globe-winning film The Mauritanian, opposite Jodie Foster. Meanwhile, Scottish star Izuka Hoyle, making her film debut in 2021’s Mary Queen of Scots, has also featured in both the film and TV versions of Boiling Point with Stephen Graham, as well as the Channel 4 sitcom Big Boy.

With its captivating plot, talented cast, and stunning Welsh backdrops, ‘Prisoner’ is poised to captivate audiences when it premieres later this year, offering a thrilling and suspenseful viewing experience that is not to be missed.
