A heart-wrenching incident in Ontario has left a local family reeling after a collision resulted in the tragic deaths of five siblings. On the evening of June 12, an accident unfolded at the intersection of 4th Line and Wellington Road 12, approximately 20 minutes from St. Jacobs. The family van, which was transporting ten individuals, collided with an SUV around 7:30 p.m. Tragically, five children from the Doerksen family—Peter, 12; Helena, 10; Sara, 8; Maggie, 6; and Susy, 4—lost their lives in the crash, leaving their parents and six siblings to cope with the devastating aftermath.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that the SUV driver did not survive the accident, but investigations are ongoing to determine the precise cause. Joanna Sweet, a managing partner at Greg Monforton & Partners, is representing the Doerksen family and has indicated that initial evidence suggests potential liability on the part of the SUV driver, who allegedly failed to obey a stop sign.

As the investigation progresses, Sweet has reached out to the public for any additional information or eyewitness accounts that may shed light on the incident. “From the information we have so far, there certainly appears to be driver error from the SUV,” she stated, emphasising the need to comprehend the full context of the accident.

A GoFundMe campaign initiated by Nancy Doerksen, the second-oldest sibling, has successfully raised over £366,000. In her updates, Nancy has shared the family’s harrowing experience, describing the profound grief they are enduring. “The heartbreak and grief are beyond words,” she wrote, highlighting the challenges the family faces in the wake of such an unimaginable loss.
Survivors and Ongoing Investigation
Among those injured in the incident were the siblings’ parents, Cornelius and Judit Doerksen, as well as family friends Peter and Elizabeth Bartsch, who were also in the van. The youngest child, a 15-month-old boy, suffered a broken leg, while the parents endured numerous injuries, including the need for hip surgery for Judit.
