A 28-year-old man has been apprehended in connection with the murder of former Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe, whose body was discovered at her Devon residence on Thursday. The suspect was taken into custody in South Yorkshire on Saturday evening, as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding her death.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the arrest, stating, “We were supported by Counter Terrorism Policing North East and South Yorkshire police who carried out the arrest on behalf of Devon and Cornwall police.” Importantly, they have indicated that there is currently no evidence linking this case to terrorism. Earlier in the investigation, a 26-year-old man was detained in Newton Abbot but was released without any charges on Saturday morning. The police have clarified that their ongoing inquiries are focused solely on the current suspect, who has not yet been publicly identified.
Longman reassured the community that there is no broader threat to public safety. “Our inquiries are moving at pace for a suspect who is believed to be a white male,” he stated.
