In a harrowing incident that has left many questioning Canada’s border control practices, a Quebec coroner has revealed that a Brazilian woman was turned away at Canadian border crossings three times shortly before her tragic death in the woods. The woman, 36, reportedly succumbed to hypothermia in January 2024 after attempting to enter Canada. Her body was discovered near Coaticook, Quebec, in April, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

The Circumstances Surrounding Her Death

Coroner Donald Nicole’s report indicates that the woman likely perished around January 15, after having made three unsuccessful attempts to cross into Canada on January 7, 10, and 11. Each time, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) denied her entry, sending her back into perilous conditions. The investigation revealed that she had entered Canada through a forested area, which ultimately led to her tragic fate.

Authorities were alerted to her presence after passersby found her body in the woods, raising immediate concerns about the effectiveness and humanity of the country’s border policies.
