The British Geological Survey reports that no groundwater sites in the UK are experiencing record lows, with nearly half maintaining normal levels. This is a silver lining amid troubling conditions. The real test, however, will come in late autumn and winter when seasonal rains typically arrive. Historically, the UK has engineered its landscapes to rapidly move water off the land, which has contributed to the flooding issues we face today.
“This is a wake-up call that we do need to see a fundamental shift in how we think about water,” Entwistle urges. The current climate crisis requires innovative solutions and a re-evaluation of our relationship with water resources.
