In a relief for students and staff, two Wolverhampton schools that were forced to close due to a mysterious odour have now reopened. The incident, which had led to several people experiencing nausea, has been resolved after remedial work was carried out at the affected sites.

Green Park School and Stowlawn Primary, both located in Wolverhampton, had shut down earlier this week as a precautionary measure. The unusual smell, detected near the swimming pool at Green Park School, had prompted the authorities to take swift action.

According to a spokesperson for the City of Wolverhampton Council, the remedial work on the heating and air-handling systems at Green Park School has successfully eliminated the problematic odour. Stowlawn Primary, which had closed as a precaution, will also reopen on Thursday, allowing both schools to resume normal operations.

The situation had caused significant disruption, with paramedics called in to assess “a number of patients” who had experienced unexplained nausea. The West Midlands Fire Service had also attended the site, but their specialist monitoring equipment detected nothing of concern.

“Remedial work has been carried out to the heating and air-handling systems today, which has successfully removed the odour that caused the concern,” the council spokesperson stated.

The swift response and resolution of the issue are a relief for the local community, ensuring that students can return to their classrooms and continue their education without further interruption.
